A call: Future design for buildings and interiors

In this next FABE Circle event, we will discuss the link between the global climate emergency and our work with buildings, interiors and furniture.

Local architect and advocate of climate-positive buildings Jakob Schneider will give a talk on the urgency of action needed in the architecture and building sectors in the face of the current climate emergency. Jakob is a member of the management at Salathé Architekten Basel AG as well as one of the founders of Countdown 2030, a Swiss association focused on raising awareness on our role in addressing the climate emergency and sees the challenge as a creative opportunity.

In this powerful call to action, is about nothing less than the "reinvention of modernity". Jakob will take us through the recent history of architecture, key facts and figures about the climate as well as introduce us to several practical frameworks for going forward, including alternative materials, circular design and the application of the 5 ‘r’s – Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Rot in architecture.

This will be followed by a short Q&A session with Jakob, and discussing some practical examples from architecture. The moderator will also share examples from related sectors such as construction, interior design and furniture.

After this inspiring exchange, participants will be split into break-out groups where moderators will encourage them share their own experiences and ideas about implementing the 5 ‘r’s in buildings, interiors and furniture. They’ll be a chance to feedback the results from the discussion in plenary.

The event will be held in a mix of German English: the main talk will be in German, and participants will have a choice of languages for the break-out groups.
